Keep moving, and check in!

How you holding up while being holed in?  Have you found ways to be content(even briefly) in being here, right here, right now? Are small things-like rays of sunshine, cups of tea, slippers, dogs curled on the couch, old books, old friends-taking on a deeper meaning? It seems we are making space for smaller things…because for so long we have all been rushing towards the next thing.  I know for me, I would often have 5 minutes between one thing and on to the next that I DIDN’T make time to talk to people, connect, see a photo of  someone’s family member…whatever.  I was rushing, doing, going.

Now…I am here.  I look at the dog, the pig, the kids, the dishwasher, the Wheat Thins (damn the Wheat Thins) and I long for the JCC hallways.  But since I can’t rush from one thing to the next…I have opened a book I have meant to read for months.  I have written letters (yep-pen, paper, stamps) to old friends.  I have mediated for longer than 7 minutes.  And those things are filling my days.  Yes…I wait with anticipation for our ZOOM time.  It reminds me the outside world exists-that we are still so deeply connected in all this beautiful mess.

Here are some things you can do to help our community:

  • Tune into our group fitness classes!  For your health and movement.  For connections. Go to our website: https://apjcc.org/sports-wellness/more/hours-schedules/ each day and MOVE!!!!
  • Send Stephanie an email on how the classes have helped you and/or loved ones during this time. This will help our staff and Board determine how to navigate these times.  Here is her email: [email protected]
  • Get outside.  Even in the backyard or to your mailbox.  We learn by nature.  It shows us how to slow down to its time.
  • Write letters to loved ones.  Or FaceTime.  Or sit and make a long and lingering phone call.  We have time to listen.
